I need to learn how to preserve an older oil painting from close to 100 years ago.?

This is what I believe is an oil painting but oddly enough it is not on canvas. It is Painted on some sort of really hard board that is probably about 1/2 in thick. This was just passed down from my husbands grandmother and we want to take care of it but not sure how. Also the corners of this board material painting are a little worn. Please if anyone can..HELP. Thanks

If it is important to you and you are concerned about taking care of it, don’t attempt and restoration or improvements yourself. In other words, don’t clean it or paint anything on it. If it needs restoration have a professional do it. The best thing you could do yourself is to frame it for protection and keep it away from direct sunlight and smokey rooms. Beware of a framing shop for advice other than for framing. For advice about the painting itself go to a gallery or museum.
